An enthusiastic Chinese chess player, Philip has sponsored several XiangQi tournaments, which were well-received by the Chinese chess community in Singapore—the latest being the OPL Scholastic XiangQi tournament held on 3 September 2016.

The objective of these sponsorship initiatives is to promote traditional mind game culture in Singapore as an integral part of healthy living and indirectly help combat the increased prevalence of cyber-addiction amongst children and teenagers here.
